Today we are starting our webliography. We have to find 10 articles that will help answer our questions. I am going to link the citation machine web site. The site will save time on my project. It will create less error. I have articles already and will contuine to search for ones that are better and might be from medical journals. I have updated my questions. Here they are again:

Essential question:

What are the causes of teen suicides, and the impact of teen suicide and effective interventions?

Foundation questions:

Why do teens commit suicide?

Who does it affect when a teen commits suicide? And how do they recover?

What are the treatment options for teens wanting to commit suicide?

Are there any warning signs that will alert other to help? If so, what are they?

If someone said that they are thinking of committing suicide, what can an individual do to help?

Is there any family history that goes into suicidal thoughts and actions?

What are the ways that teens are trying and committing suicide?

What are the statistics of teen suicide?

If you try to commit suicide or have thoughts about suicide, what are the prevention centers going to do to help me?

What is the thought process that goes into committing suicide?

How much of the outside world contributes to teens committing suicide or having those thoughts?

Do suicide trends reflect a difference in teens today vs. several years ago?

How does depression and other mental issues affect the mental state of a teen and with suicidal thoughts?

Do the types of medications teens are on to they have some affect on the mental state?

Today I was able to start reading the articles that I have printed and marking where the questions are. I am going to edit the changes that we made in class on my questions. I am ready to move on pretty soon to teh next step. I am thinking of who I am going to have for my interview. I think that I worked well today. I would say that I went through at least 3 long articles and did a start on underlining. I am less confussed with my topic and ready to start creating.

Today I was having a little bit of computer problems. Although I was able to make my list od words to define. The key words are: Suicide, mental disorders, depression, suicidal felling/ideation, anxiety, cutting, over dose, teen, anti depressants, behavioral health, Phychiatry, Suicide prevention, sleeping habits. I still have to define the words, I will go back and put them in to a word doc. I am learning a lot about my topic and I look forward to learning the most that I can. I feel that I will be able to stick with it for the long term. I feel that I worked about a 8 on the 0-10 scale. 10 being the highest and 0 being the lowest. I am going to try to define a few at home tonight.(Maybe, maybe not, I will see what else I have to do tonight homework wise).

I have now picked my topic. I am going to do teen suicide. I have started reading on the topic in general. I still have to decide what I will be an expert on. I have so many ideas on what to do for an action plan and the topic in general. I have printed out articles on this and will start to read to find out what area I want to be an expert on. I think this is a topic that every one needs to know about. It is the growing leading cause of death in teens.

For my project I think that I will do colon cancer. I would do general facts and then break it down in to the current screening. I would try to get the word out using the ninth graders. I think that it would be a great way to let the general public informed. My aunt died at the age of 51 with this. I think that colon screening would be a way to save lives. I am thinking about going in to the medical field after high school. I am not sure what type of job, but I feel a pull towards the medical field This could be a way to find out if I want to do more medical things in the future. I am going to think about this week end and then come up with my final decision. I am really leaning towards this as my topic. For now, the next post will have my mind made up, hopefully.

  • I have heard many different things about the grad project at city high. I know a few students that worked hard and did not do well in the interview with the panel. The grad project is a lot of work and do not fall behind.
  • I have a few ideas for my grad project. I like many different things that might be help full with my grad project. I like the medical feild and helping people with different things.
  • I have a few concerns with the grad project. I might not be able to finish my project on time. I might not like my topic after a while.
  • I have not picked a topic yet. I am trying to pick my brain to figure out what I want to do for my project.
